Welcome to Galazio

Hello, Yiasas, Opa! My name is Dionissios (Dion) and I am the current owner and one of the original founders of Galazio Restaurant (formerly Ouzo’s Greek and Regional Cuisine). From my childhood, I enjoyed delicious authentic Greek cuisine from my mother, Asimina Gressis.  At a young age, I convinced her to open her own restaurant and thus, Ouzo’s Greek and Regional Cuisine was born in April of 2002.  I always supported the restaurant whenever and wherever it was needed, by either spending time in the kitchen with Momma, or serving and bartending in the front of the house (when I was 21 of course!), or handling all of the technology needs of the restaurant.

We provided local favorites and Mediterranean cuisine to Charles County residents for ten years and held several events such as Easter Parties, DJ nights, Black Friday late night entertainment, Belly Dancing festivals, and cooking classes. Over time though, the name was modernized, and the location of the restaurant changed, fresh brick oven pizzas were added, and Galazio Restaurant was born due to the quick thinking of my late brother, Iossif Marios Gressis during the US economic crisis in 2010.

In 2015 I forged a new path in my life. After teaching for ten years at the Stethem Center in Charles County I challenged my skills and abilities and taught abroad in Asia and in Germany from 2016 to 2021, a time period that changed my life for the better professionally and personally. I returned in late 2021 with my wife and child, because of the tragic loss of my brother Iossif Marios Gressis. It was either I returned, or the fate of Galazio Restaurant would have been unknown.

I simply could not see the restaurant my family started 20 years ago dissipate so I returned in mid school year to the USA. I left the International School of Stuttgart Germany, a beautiful location where I was happily teaching mathematics, to suddenly go from supporting role to the center stage of Galazio Restaurant.  This was the most challenging period of my life, I was grieving for my brother, I was relocating, while re-acquainting myself with every aspect of the restaurant business.

It’s been two years now since I have been at the helm and we have continued the successes of the past because of my relentless focus on the food and service. I intend on keeping the atmosphere and service of the restaurant always warm, inviting, friendly and professional.  The food will always be prepared with high quality ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil, authentic Feta, or mountain oregano, and the physical space will always be clean and hygienic.
